Sunrises and sunsets in Reunion Island
Like many islands, Reunion Island is the scene of splendid sunrises and sunsets. At dawn, the first rays illuminate the horizon and awaken nature. In the evening, however, the sun's glowing color plunges into the Indian Ocean. Each of these two moments is conducive to reverie and contemplation. Thus, you cannot go to Reunion Island and overlook this gift of nature. Whether you are passing through the island or a resident of Reunion, this natural spectacle is breathtaking, and it is simply impossible to tire of it! But what are the best places to observe them?
The most beautiful sunrises in Reunion Island
In Reunion Island, beauty is everywhere, especially when nature is bathed in the morning sunlight.
Nevertheless, as the island offers a wide variety of landscapes, there are also several ways to observe the sunrise. Facing the sea or at the top of the mountains, you are free to choose your ideal spot...
Awakening in front of the still sleeping sea...
During the early hours of the day, the rising sun in the sky casts a soft blue hue on the horizon, blending with an orange tint, gradually revealing the sun. When the sky is clear over the Indian Ocean, observing this spectacle gives the impression of being alone in the world. Purity reigns, and nature seems to awaken before us. At certain times of the year, especially from June to September, you may even have the opportunity to spot whales in the distance engaging in some morning acrobatics.
... or gain altitude for the first rays of the day
However, heading towards the summits of Reunion Island also allows for observing splendid sunrises. Indeed, on the island, the heights tend to quickly be covered by clouds. To enjoy the most beautiful panoramas of the island, it is better to be an early riser. The Maïdo offers a spectacular view of the Mafate cirque. Similarly, being on one of the two highest peaks of the island for the first rays of the day is an unforgettable spectacle, whether it's on the Piton des Neiges or on the foothills of the Piton de la Fournaise crater.
The best sunsets in Reunion Island
More praised even than the Reunionese sunrise, the sunset has many followers, especially when observed while enjoying a fresh Dodo, a local beer, or a ti' punch. If you've enjoyed swimming at the beach in the afternoon, stay there in the evening and watch the sky transform minute by minute. The colors change at a crazy speed, and you'll easily observe the sun sinking into the Indian Ocean. True to tradition, Reunionese people gather on the beaches in the evening to observe this spectacle of nature. The atmosphere is therefore festive!
Of course, to contemplate this phenomenon, you will have to go to the west of the island... where most of the beach and tourist resorts are also located. L'Ermitage, La Saline, Saint-Leu, or Saint Pierre are all stops that lend themselves perfectly to splendid panoramas. Catamarans sailing in the distance, surfers contemplating the horizon, or palm trees on the beaches offer sumptuous contrasts... These delight photographers who then capture beautiful shots, outlining dark shadows in the foreground, standing out against a fiery sky!
