The Empire State Building

Iconic skyscraper of New York City, the Empire State Building stands among the tallest buildings on the planet. Located on the prestigious Fifth Avenue, it rises to a height of 381 meters and offers views of the entire city from its 102nd floor.

Its construction began in March 1930 and was completed in May 1931. In an Art Deco style, the Empire State Building was the tallest skyscraper in New York for many years. Today, it ranks second after the One World Trade Center.

A must-visit for all tourists coming to New York, the Empire State Building is often crowded. To avoid long lines and crowds on its observation deck, we recommend visiting between 8 am and 10 am in the morning, or later at night from 11 pm or midnight when the city is fully illuminated. The Empire State Building is open from 8 am to 2 am! Admission is $37 to reach the 86th floor and $57 to go up to the 102nd.

Good to know: The Empire State Building observatory is wheelchair accessible.

The September 11 Memorial

Finally, built on the site of the former Twin Towers, the 9/11 Memorial pays tribute to the many victims of the New York attacks. The buildings have been replaced by two enormous 9-meter-deep reflecting pools that precisely mark where the buildings once stood. Underground, a museum is entirely dedicated to the history of this tragedy.

Because this event is one of the most significant in New York's history, you cannot visit the city without stopping at the site where the towers collapsed. Families and friends of the victims still come here to lay flowers and pay their respects. The emotion here is still deeply palpable.

The memorial is open from 7:30 AM to 9 PM, and the museum from 9:20 AM to 9 PM. While visiting the memorial is free, expect to pay $24 per adult and $15 per child under 17 to visit the museum, except on Tuesday evenings when entry is free.
